The team behind GuruGuru present their work as film-maker (Joji Koyama), musician (Isambard Khroustaliov) and performance maker (Ant Hampton).

1. Two films by Joji Koyama, with sound by Isambard Khroustaliov.

FIRST PLACE (2008)
Duration: 9mins
Commissioned by Animasivo as part of the Festival de Mexico en el Centro Historico 2008.
Director: Joji Koyama
Music and Sound: Tujiko Noriko and Isambard Khroustaliov
In the aftermath of an unexplained disaster, a racing car driver is left stranded on a desolate arctic landscape. With help form a Siberian Husky, the stranded driver heads for the finish line only to find himself a pitiful champion to an indifferent world.

FROM NOSE TO MOUTH (2006)
Duration: 18.23 mins
Funded by Animate! (Arts Council of England and Channel 4)
Director: Joji Koyama
Music and Sound: Isambard Khroustaliov
A solitary figure struggles with a set of bizarre lessons and tasks including a computer touch-typing programme and an ice-skating sequence. Set in a disorientating arena of shifting boundaries, the lessons are not going well.

2. The Audience: A short slideshow by Ant Hampton. A surreal yet personal response to ideas of landscape, what man has made of it,  how we see it now, and where we see it going. It mixes desperation with humour, placing the audience in impossibly varied settings somehow managing to string together as a single 'experience' which may either be a 'show', a lifetime, or the splintered memories of our world seen from some distant future.

3.  Isambard Khroustaliov's music sits somewhere between the fictional abandon of a mashup and the contemplated purposefulness of contemporary composed music; unafraid to step on the feet of defunct rhetoric and unashamed of its boldly idealistic outlook.  The evening will feature selections of new music from Khroustaliov's first solo album, scheduled for release in the fall.
