"Phelps distills performance down to its bare gears and pulleys... not by reminding me that the body is an instrument of the theatre, but by showing that the body itself is a form of theatre."--The Stranger (Seattle)
"Of all the seminal albums to come out in 1991-the year of Nevermind, Loveless, Ten, and Out of Time, among others- none was quieter, both in volume and influence, than Spiderland, and no band more mysterious than Slint. Few single albums can lay claim to sparking an entire genre, but Spiderland- all six songs of it - laid the foundation for post-rock in the 1990s."--Scott Tennent, Spiderland (33 1/3 series), Continuum Books
Listening To Spiders is inspired by the 1991 album, Spiderland (Touch and Go) from the Louisville, KY. band Slint. Listening to Spiders is about the spaces between sounds. It is a physicalized homage to the deconstruction of aural experience. I have been listening to this album for 20 years, this is the result.
Work in progress showing.
