HELOISE GOLD lives in Austin Texas.She is a performing artist, choreographer, dancer, T'ai Chi/Qi Gong instructor and co-founder of ART FROM THE STREETS (a project for homeless artists). She has been teaching T'ai Chi since 1978 and runs a movement/arts studio in Austin. She has been co-leading Deep Listening Retreats with Pauline Oliveros and Ione since their inception in 1991 and also runs week-long T'ai Chi Retreats annually in New Mexico. Her book Deeply Listening Body was published in 2008. Originally from NYC she trained in ballet since the age of 4 and as a young teen performed with the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballets during their early visits to the U.S. In her early 20's her interests shifted to experimental forms. She studied and performed with Robert Wilson in THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JOSEPH STALIN at the Brooklyn Academy of Music; with Simone Forti (experimental dance) and was a member of Quena company (an experimental open theatre ensemble). She moved to Austin in 1978 and performed/toured with the DEBORAH HAY DANCE COMPANY for 5 years. In 1980 she started creating her own full length performance works. Her love of ritual, improvisation, collaboration, social issues, comedy and the absurd always play a big part in her pieces. Some of her more popular works performed in Austin include the WATCHING FROM THE SHE-PALACE series; MAGGS, THE 10,000 YEAR OLD WOMAN; BIRD DREAM DANCES AND SONGS; HOT FLASH; DIVINE LUNACY; THE GREATEST SHOW ON DIRT; CHICKEN AND BEANS; and THE GREAT DISAPPEARING ACT, nominated in 2007 for a B. Iden Payne award.
For the past several years Heloise has been performing in collaborations with experimental artists from the US, Canada and Europe. Some of these include: in 2000 she was the co-choreographer for the LUNAR OPERA performed at the LINCOLN CENTER OUT OF DOORS FESTIVAL in New York City. In 2004 she was an Artist-In Residence at DEEP LISTENING SPACE in N.Y. performing with trombonist Monique Buzzarté (NYC). In 2007 she was a guest performer at THE DEEP LISTENING PERFORMANCE CONVERGENCE in upstate New York performing with trombonist Monique Buzzarté (NYC) and cellist Brigitte Meyer (Switzerland) in addition to collaborating with trombonist Stuart Dempster (Seattle), and composer Kim McCarthy (Chicago). Also in 2007 Heloise was a guest performer at the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR IMPROVISED MUSIC Conference in Chicago and collaborated in a world premiere of an interactive live and virtual performance using Second Life with internationally renowned composer Pauline Oliveros and spoken word artist Ione. Heloise appeared as the character MAGGS THE 10,000 YEAR OLD WOMAN in the experimental art film DREAMS OF THE JUNGFRAU by Ione (filmed in Switzerland). In 2008 her piece PIGZ R US was performed at the EARS EYES AND FEET FESTIVAL at the University of Texas, and she also was a guest artist with the QUIET MUSIC ENSEMBLE at the University of Cork (Ireland).
Heloise is the recipient of many Cultural Contract grants from the City of Austin, the Texas Commission for the Arts and a New Forms Initiative from the NEA. Heloise is one of the original co-founders of ART FROM THE STREETS which began in 1990.
About Julie Nathanielsz
Julie Nathanielsz is a dancer, teacher and bodyworker currently completing her M.F.A. in Dance at the University of Texas, Austin. The heart of her current research is composing dances in the moment, in real time performance. Julie performed with the dance-theatre company of Margery Segal/NERVE (1998-2006) and was a founding member of the Improvisational Movement Project (2004-2006). She has collaborated with costume technologist Eleanor Fluharty, designer Sarah Mosher, and most recently tenor saxophonist Carl Smith (ECFA Quartet). Julie has taught Skinner Releasing Technique classes and workshops in a wide range of settings since becoming certified in 2001.

Tenor Saxophonist Carl Smith is a performer and composer based in Austin, Texas. Carl is also organizer of the ECFA trio which is the main vehicle for his musical ideas.
