5 Questions For Phil Soltanoff-
1. What is your name?
Phil Soltanoff
2. How many of you are there?
I think I’m the only one……
3. What are you wrestling with?
On a personal level- well, you don’t want to know. Artistically- exploring the relationship between technology and people– space– not necessarily the cosmos, but space– a room, a geometric, a cul de sac, a bag, a screen, etc.— as a source of infinite possibilities once it’s discovered with a fresh eye.
4. What ingredients go into your art?
Simplicity (not to be confused with simplistic), a clear eye—seeing is forgetting the name of the thing one sees, timing, a collision of gestures–visual, sonic, textual, the performance space as a place where a conversation, not a solution or explanation, happens.
5. What’s the signature you want to leave on this year’s Fusebox Festival?
Art is art, but that doesn’t mean pleasure can’t be part of the bargain. Thanks!
