Sibyl Kempson & Mike Iveson with Ilan Bachrach
Mike Iveson came to Fusebox for the first time last year with Sibyl Kempson and the notorious CRIME OR EMERGENCY. He also performs with Elevator Repair Service (THE SUN ALSO RISES at RIAF, Sarasota, Fla.; THE SOUND AND THE FURY (APRIL 7TH, 1928) at New York Theatre Workshop and world tour; and GATZ, world tour, most recently at ART in Cambridge, Mass.); Sarah Michelson (both as performer and composer, including DOGS at New York’s Brooklyn Academy of Music, DOVER BEACH at Chapter Arts, Cardiff, Wales, and GROUP EXPERIENCE at New York’s PS 122, which earned him a Bessie Award for music composition); New York City Players (ODE TO THE MAN WHO KNEELS by Richard Maxwell at the Performing Garage, New York, and world tour); and in the work of many others, notably Dancenoise, Erin Courtney, Aaron Landsman, Mike Taylor, and the Alien Comic. He wrote the music for Kate Ryan’s play DOT, premiering at Clubbed Thumb/The Ohio Theatre in New York this summer.
Sibyl Kempson appeared at the Fusebox Festival in 2009 with her play CRIME OR EMERGENCY, together with Mike Iveson. They've performed together with that same piece at Performance Space 122, Soho Rep, Dixon Place in NYC, and will also bring it to the Great Plains Theater Conference in Omaha, Nebraska and the Stadt Theater in Bonn, Germany in the coming year. They also collaborated as a songwriting team on a production of her play POTATOES OF AUGUST at the new Dixon Place in 2008/9. Other projects in the works are THE SECRET DEATH OF PUPPETS (OR) HOW DO PUPPETS DIE? (OR) PUPPETS DIE IN SECRET; THE VISIONS OF THE BLESSED BRUDER KLAUS; and ZEIT AF DER KÜRBISGEISTNACHTEN (OR) IT'S A GOOD LIFE IF YOU DON'T WEAKEN. Also KYCKLING AND SCREAMING which is an adaptation of The Wild Duck by Henrik Ibsen; and AT THE KINGDOM'S GATE: PRELUDE, a translation of Knut Hamsun's play Ved Rigets Port: Forspil. Her work is published by the 53rd State Press, PLAY: A Journal of Plays, Semiotext(e) Native Agents/MIT Press, the Brooklyn Review, and online at Midway Literary Journal and i-theatron. As a performer she collaborates in NYC and internationally with Richard Maxwell and NYC Players, Elevator Repair Service, and Nature Theater of Oklahoma. Founding member of the Joyce Cho Initiative, a playwrights' collective dedicated to the staging of problem plays, and of Machiqq Women's Auxiliary playwriting group. MFA in Playwriting from Brooklyn College, 2007, where she studied under the instigation of Mac Wellman.
